Farmhouse influence

Though some may believe Joanna Gaines from fixer upper created this look, she didn't. She was the one who mastered the concept! It originated with farmers who needed places to live and farmhouses reflected the the land, building material and goods as well as the lifestyles of these farmers in the rural area.

Today, the farmhouse style is a lifestyle that reflects a love for the land, home and lifestyle and it keeps a close connection between both. It loves simplicity and has a do-it-yourself attitude. Recycling and renovating are all features in farmhouse styles. Oh so cozy and welcoming,  there is a great sense of style about farmhouse living! FARMHOUSE FEATURES

Farmhouse styles feature a ‘washed and worn’ look. This style famously features colors with gray and very subtle undertones. The textures in pieces as well as within the architectural elements of a home feature exposed elements such as shiplap, brick and iron. This look incorporates a vintage feel but its a careful balance of the old and new.

Check our our article on the Principles and Elements of Interior Design to learn about all of the elements that go into an interior to create a harmonious balance.
